My Conversation With a Famous Poet- Challenge #19

Music flowing in a hypnotic beat
Riding each note to get a little closer
The crowd parted through a haze of reefer
Left to fall behind on the street

There in the middle
Sitting cross legged was he
Looking up from his notebook
Calling out to me

I knelt at his feet
As he started to speak
"Indian's scattered on dawn's highway bleeding..."
For a moment, I couldn't breathe

His eyes danced as he continued the verse
Every bit of me entangled in every part
When it was over, he took a hit and held my hand
Sharing spoken word that had never been

And just as our lips came close together,
The alarm went off and the dog jumped on the bed
It was time to get up
And shake the dream from my head

I always said I was born several years too late and had I had the opportunity to talk to Jim Morrison, just once, I imagine it would have gone something like the above.

to the doors and watch the movie. one of my favorite songs was "Love Street" it was like an Island or a safety zone in a grenade range. of course, I had darker faves, too. he was a great poet and lyricist in a troubled time.

Is by far one of my favorite lyricists and poets. Everything about him was brilliant. My favorite is The End.

Yessss! that is also one of mine! it is one that truly haunts the soul... it reaches right down and grabs a person by the guts. I was twenty in '71. and scrabbling to get out of my own way. the music of the 70'sand 80's was a lifeline.

*hugs & respect, Cat

His voice is hypnotic...almost trance like...The End was the predecessor to his poem the Hitchhiker and then Riders on the Storm. Leaves chills when he drops the final note about letting go...

I wrote some of my best poems when listening to the doors. unfortunately, my second husband burned my notebooks. he also took my best friend to bed...

Was the doors and Steppenwolf. Steppenwolf is forever my favorite. Morrison was a different kind of favorite. Steppenwolf was the stable rational part of things...Morrison was the darker, fantasy part.

I'm glad that you had them all, for a well-rounded experience. at that time, the darker side was my reality. there was a lot of terrible things going on in my life, prior family was raging with destruction. home was disintegrated with both abandonment and betrayal. somehow I got through it.
