Possible contests change
I know I'm the contest director but there is an idea I've been playing around with on contests with which I'd like to gain opinions and input from everybody.
Up until now contests have only been open to poems written specifically for the given contest. But i suspect there have been times when a contest has been posted and somebody(s) have thought "Man. I have a poem I wrote a while back that would fit this contest perfectly!" So here are some questions :
Should all contests be open to pre-written poem?
Or, maybe should we only periodically open a contest to pre-writes"
I'd appreciate input fom as many people as possible. And if you see somebody has already supplied an answer you support don't just skip this blog, say I agree with such and such person........stan

I think
if previously written poem does fit all the requirements (length, theme, etc) that is okay. Maybe not poems that have already been published/ won awards/ made money/ otherwise recognized, but previously written wouldn't be a big deal. It wasn't as if they got extra time to work with the prompt.

I agree with Kelsey
Previously written poems that fit the criteria would be OK.

I'd rather disagree as I usually do
For each contest
it must be a FRESH POEM
and not off the beat
The judge must stick to Stan's needs/seeds
as directed
Last contest was disappointing
both I think for raj and me
Raj may excuse me

Alright then
we are now 2 to 1 for allowing pre writes. Let's keep the votes coming in

Few thoughts
I agree to Kelsey's Triple Post. However,
a) if such poem had received multiple comments the first time it was posted and is re posted with those comments, would it create a bias, especially for the Judge?
b) Is it easily possible for the judge to determine if it was posted earlier or is a fresh one? if it is very cumbersome, it may make the judge's task tougher

Hi raj
good points. I think a writer can edit out comments or maybe do a cut and paste for the poem without comments. As far as comments affecting a judge ....I'd like to think that wouldn't happen

Stan
It's a good idea though which would benefit those who already have conformed to the contest parameters in an earlier post and look at it as a good opportunity to bring it back to stream via the contest may be with a few tweaks if necessary...will also result in greater number of participants

Would be
Especially good for those poems who received no comments at all and fit the criteria. Would give them a way to be noticed.
Keep Writing,
Carrie

I vote pre-written allowed without prejudice
as long as it fits the contest guidelines.
I'm tempted to multiple post for extra votes.

I guess
I need a sign that reads "sarcasm" whenever I use it

no, I got the sarcasm
I made the comment because contests are your baby, you didn't really need a poll, you could have just told us that pre-written poems are acceptable if they fit the contest guidelines.
(was that subtle enough for you? [grins])
cheers,
Jess

There
will come a time when contests will be somebody else's responsibility. So i thought it best to see what others (possible future directors) thought of the idea......stan

?
Not sure why there is even a question,
what difference would it make if it were
an old poem as long as the guidelines
are adhered to?

One
of the reasons for contests is to give folks ideas on something to write about.
