Hope

When you smile,
Mighty darkness
Has an urge to confess.

Your smile turns fears,
Into exiled prisoners
That are banished for years.

The sound of your laughter
Beckons sadness to dream
Of a tomorrow free of disaster.

Are you real? I daringly ask,
In a world where joy
Is sold as a jester’s mask.

In a world filled with gloom,
There is your soul that makes
Spring flowers bloom.

You show hate is no king,
Just another fool,
With a bite that doesn’t sting.

Oh, hope don’t join the rest,
Show this lost cosmos
That you know what’s best.

Paint the skies with glee,
Offer rest to the souls whose
Thoughts will never flee.

In a world of lies you are right,
even mighty Hades doesn’t
dare put up a fight!

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet's computer artificial intelligence:

This poem, titled "Hope", is a well-structured piece that utilizes a variety of poetic devices to convey its message. The use of personification, particularly in the lines "Mighty darkness / Has an urge to confess" and "You show hate is no king," is effective in giving abstract concepts a tangible presence. This helps to create a vivid image in the reader's mind, enhancing the overall impact of the poem.

The poem also employs a consistent rhyme scheme, which contributes to its overall rhythm and flow. However, there are a few instances where the rhythm is slightly disrupted due to the varying lengths of the lines. For example, the line "Offer rest to the souls whose / Thoughts will never flee" could be restructured to maintain a more consistent rhythm.

The theme of hope is clearly conveyed throughout the poem, with the speaker addressing hope as a personified entity. This is a powerful approach as it allows the reader to connect with the concept of hope on a more personal level. However, the poem could benefit from a more nuanced exploration of this theme. For example, the speaker could delve deeper into the reasons why hope is needed in the world, or explore the consequences of its absence.

The poem's language is generally clear and accessible, though there are a few instances where the meaning could be clarified. For example, in the line "In a world where joy / Is sold as a jester’s mask," the metaphor could be made more explicit to ensure that the reader fully grasps its significance.

Lastly, the poem's ending could be strengthened to leave a more lasting impression on the reader. The final line, "even mighty Hades doesn’t / dare put up a fight!" is a powerful statement, but it could be further developed to provide a more impactful conclusion.

This is absolutely wonderful. Dare I say the best I read from your pen. I know I have been away for a while and I am afraid I've lost much from you and my other friends.

My favorite lines if I had to choose,

"You show hate is no king,
Just another fool,
With a bite that doesn’t sting."

In addition to the closing stanza

Thumps up:)

Hello, Paul,
Such a strong opening stanza! (I noticed it has a different rhyme pattern than the others.) The poem's overall rhyme pattern is hard, and you've done really well. I believe you've described the deep meaning of hope, and in reading your poem - I feel hopeful!
Thank you!
