Romeo and Juiliette

I still miss you
Once in a while
I still want you
A step in a mile

I don't love you
I miss your smile
I miss our antics
Once in a while

Those days when
We were just kids
When love was only
An unopened lid

I miss what we had
I miss your laughter
Before I thought of
Happily ever after

If only things could
Stay simple like when
We were just children
Not women and men

But time marches on
Like a soldier at war
Love conquered us
But pain wanted more

I smile at those days
When reality hadn't set
When we were two kids
Not Romeo and Juliette

The poem "Romeo and Juiliette" captures the lingering emotions and nostalgia associated with a past relationship. The repetition of "I still miss you" and "Once in a while" creates a sense of longing and the desire to hold onto certain memories. The contrast between "I don't love you" and "I miss your smile" adds complexity to the speaker's feelings, suggesting a mix of conflicting emotions.

The poem effectively conveys a sense of yearning for the simplicity and innocence of childhood, when love was uncomplicated. The imagery of "an unopened lid" and "when love was only / An unopened lid" emphasizes the idea of untapped potential and the loss of that initial innocence.

The use of the Romeo and Juliet reference adds depth to the poem, highlighting the tragic nature of love and the passage of time. The final lines, "When we were two kids / Not Romeo and Juliette," serve as a reminder of the inevitable changes and challenges that

Hello, Shelby,
This has the feel of a song. Much depth here, but also the naivete' of youth. Bittersweet memories.
Thank you,
L

It's the same for me. I wrote this about a boy I grew up with but eventually drifted away. It was painful at the time but taught me several lessons. Thank you for reading, I really appreciate it!!!

I Particularly liked the last verse, I sometimes wish, as Bob Dylan Wrote, ''Ten thousand dollars at the drop of a hat, I'd give it all gladly if our lives could be just like that''. Excellent throughout. Alex.

I loved the rhythm of the words it was easy to read while keeping me interested in the subject of the poem

Thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it!
