Caught Up in Fire

I woke up and felt like the sun
hurts a little today.
Like a parent waiting up until three.
The aftermath much too great to bear,
All that is left is a hug
to know they are still there.
Deep breaths and a whisper,
‘We will get through this.’

Devastation running its course
Downhill, leaving rubble in its trail.
Wafting it’s searing stench
Can’t simply erase the damage.
It was a raging party far after midnight,
set fire to everything in its path,
Wild and a bit hazy in the morning.

So cold how the charred remains
Leaves scorched marks, and maybe
that’s what the sun felt.
Normally, too high above
But this time turned over
Underneath embers and marred
Fiery peach amber tinged.

Smoldering ruins that won’t go away
could not hide this round.
Singed in the north
Left the south to sort out.
Send a prayer and revere Saint Florian
Make it right and renew its spirit.
Rise from ashes O Canada
Rekindle your glowing hearts.

the forest fires that the great nation of Canada is experiencing right now.
There may also be a bit of political innuendo here?

I would delete the [that] in the first line. Watch your tenses; you use [woke] as a past tense and then present tense in [feel].
This is one of those poems that I would reccomend not capitalizing each new line, as you break the flow, making the lines new thoughts.

Example: "Devastation running its course downhill, leaving rubble in its trail", instead of:
Devastation running its course
Downhill leaving rubble in its trail

I do believe that a bit of punctuation would show these points up before you posted.
Nice work just needs a little TLC to show it off to its best advantage. ~ Geezer.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Definitely, I can not say enough how I appreciated your comments and recommendations regarding verb tense and punctuation. I felt really bad about the Canada wildfires and wanted to share this moment in history with others. Totally off topic but the weekend before the wildfires very randomly I watched a documentary about Canada. Seriously, no interest before regarding the country but there were some actors and singers I wasn’t aware were from Canada.

If this ain't about the fires in Canada it should be. I just hop our fire season here in the states is not as bad

Its definitely about the wildfire devastation. in the east coast the sun was a really weird red in the morning and it smell just like a camp fire a few weeks ago. O Canada is a nod to their national anthem and St Florian is the firefighter saint.
